These Terms of Use ("Terms", "Agreement") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you", or "your") and RetireRoot ("we", "us", "our", or "Company") regarding your use of the RetireRoot mobile application (the "App", "Application", or "Service").

By accessing or using RetireRoot, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference.

2. Description of Service

RetireRoot is a financial planning and retirement preparation mobile application designed to help users:

• Calculate retirement projections and savings goals
• Track wealth-building progress through structured roadmaps
• Learn financial literacy concepts through educational flashcards
• Manage personal financial goals and expense tracking
• Plan for Financial Independence, Retire Early (F.I.R.E.) strategies
• Collaborate with others on shared financial planning (Premium feature)
• Access financial calculators and assessment tools

2.1 Free vs. Premium Features

RetireRoot offers both free and premium subscription tiers:

• Free Tier: Basic retirement calculator, limited educational content, expense tracking, and goal management
• Premium Tier: Full access to F.I.R.E. planning tools, advanced charts and analytics, collaboration features, unlimited educational content, and ad-free experience

3. Eligibility and Account Registration

3.1 Age Requirement

You must be at least 18 years of age to use RetireRoot. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into this Agreement.

3.2 Account Creation

To access certain features of the App, you must create an account by providing:

• A valid email address
• A secure password
• Optional profile information (name, age, financial details)

3.3 Account Security

You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• All activities that occur under your account
• Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access or security breach
• Ensuring your account information is accurate and up-to-date

4. Financial Disclaimer

4.1 Educational Purpose

All information, calculations, projections, and content provided through RetireRoot are for educational and informational purposes only. They should not be construed as:

• Professional financial advice
• Investment recommendations
• Tax planning guidance
• Legal counsel
• Guaranteed financial outcomes

4.2 No Guarantees

We make no representations, warranties, or guarantees regarding:

• The accuracy of financial projections or calculations
• Future investment returns or market performance
• The suitability of any financial strategy for your specific situation
• Achievement of retirement or financial independence goals

4.3 Consult Professionals

You should consult with qualified financial advisors, tax professionals, and legal counsel before making any financial decisions. RetireRoot does not replace professional financial planning services.

4.4 Assumption of Risk

You acknowledge and accept that:

• All financial decisions made based on information from RetireRoot are made at your own risk

• Investment returns can be volatile and unpredictable
• You are solely responsible for your financial decisions and outcomes

5. User Conduct and Prohibited Activities

5.1 Acceptable Use

You agree to use RetireRoot only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

• Violate any applicable laws, regulations, or third-party rights
• Use the App for any fraudulent or malicious purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's functionality or servers
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices
• Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the App
• Share your account credentials with others
• Impersonate any person or entity

5.2 Collaboration Features

When using Premium collaboration features, you agree to:

• Only share financial data with trusted individuals
• Respect the privacy and permissions of collaborators
• Not use collaboration features for commercial purposes
• Comply with all applicable data protection laws

6. Intellectual Property Rights

6.1 Ownership

RetireRoot and all its contents, features, and functionality (including but not limited to software, text, graphics, logos, icons, images, audio clips, data compilations, and algorithms) are owned by RetireRoot and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.

6.2 Limited License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

• Download and install the App on devices you own or control
• Access and use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes

6.3 Restrictions

You may not:

• Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the App
• Distribute, sell, lease, or sublicense the App
• Use the App for commercial purposes without our written permission
• Extract or reuse any portion of the App's code or content

6.4 User Content

You retain ownership of any financial data, notes, or content you input into the App ("User Content"). By using the App, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

7. Premium Subscriptions and Payments

7.1 Subscription Plans

RetireRoot offers the following Premium subscription options:

• Monthly Premium: Billed monthly with automatic renewal
• Yearly Premium: Billed annually with automatic renewal at a discounted rate

7.2 Payment Processing

Payments are processed through:

• iOS: Apple App Store (subject to Apple's Terms and Conditions)
• Android: Google Play Store (subject to Google's Terms of Service)

7.3 Automatic Renewal

Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the then-current subscription price.

7.4 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through:

• iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions
• Android: Google Play Store → Subscriptions

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial subscription periods.

7.5 Free Trial

If we offer a free trial period, you will be charged the subscription fee when the trial ends unless you cancel before the trial period expires.

7.6 Price Changes

We reserve the right to modify subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes will apply to subsequent billing periods after notice is provided.

7.7 Refund Policy

All subscription purchases are final and non-refundable except as required by applicable law or at our sole discretion. Refund requests should be directed to the respective app store (Apple or Google).

8. Data Privacy and Security

8.1 Data Collection

We collect and process personal and financial data as described in our Privacy Policy, including:

• Account information (email, name, age)
• Financial data (savings, income, expenses, goals)
• Usage data and analytics
• Device information

8.2 Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (PostgreSQL database) with industry-standard encryption and security measures.

8.3 Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal or financial data to third parties. Data may be shared only:

• With your explicit consent (e.g., collaboration features)
• As required by law or legal process
• To protect our rights or the safety of users
• With service providers who assist in operating the App (under strict confidentiality agreements)

8.4 Data Security

While we implement reasonable security measures, no system is completely secure. You acknowledge that:

• Data transmission over the internet carries inherent risks
• We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data
• You use the App at your own risk

8.5 Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time through the Profile screen. Upon deletion:

• Your account will be permanently deactivated
• Personal and financial data will be deleted within 30 days
• Some data may be retained for legal or operational purposes as described in our Privacy Policy
• Deletion is irreversible and cannot be undone

RetireRoot may contain links to third-party websites and resources, including:

We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of service of third-party sites. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk.

9.2 Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services:

• Supabase: Database and authentication services
• Google Mobile Ads: Advertising platform (free tier only)
• Expo: Development and update platform
• Apple App Store / Google Play Store: Payment processing

Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and conditions.

10. Advertising (Free Tier)

10.1 Ad Display

Free tier users will see advertisements powered by Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). Ads may include:

• Banner ads displayed within the App
• Interstitial ads shown between screens or actions

10.2 Ad Content

We do not control the content of third-party advertisements. Ad content is determined by Google's advertising algorithms and may be personalized based on your interests.

10.3 Ad-Free Experience

Premium subscribers enjoy an ad-free experience with no banner or interstitial advertisements.

11. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

11.1 "AS IS" Basis

THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Warranties of merchantability
• Fitness for a particular purpose
• Non-infringement
• Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of content
• Uninterrupted or error-free operation

11.2 Calculation Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy, we do not warrant that:

• Financial calculations are error-free or precise
• Projections will reflect actual future outcomes
• The App is suitable for your specific financial situation

11.3 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, RETIREROOT AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• Loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities
• Financial losses resulting from use of the App
• Damages arising from reliance on App content or calculations
• Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
• Third-party conduct or content

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $100 USD, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

11.4 Jurisdictional Limitations

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless RetireRoot and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to:

• Your use or misuse of the App
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any rights of another party
• Your User Content
• Financial decisions made based on App information

13. Termination

13.1 Termination by You

You may terminate your account at any time by:

• Deleting your account through the Profile screen
• Uninstalling the App from your device
• Contacting us to request account closure

13.2 Termination by Us

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the App at any time, with or without notice, for:

• Violation of these Terms
• Fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity
• Extended periods of inactivity
• Technical or security reasons
• Discontinuation of the Service

13.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

• Your right to use the App immediately ceases
• Your account and data may be deleted
• You remain liable for any outstanding obligations
• Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply

14. Updates and Modifications

14.1 App Updates

We may release updates, patches, or new versions of the App to:

• Add new features or functionality
• Fix bugs or security vulnerabilities
• Improve performance
• Comply with legal requirements

You may need to update the App to continue using it. Some updates may be automatic, while others may require manual installation.

• Material changes will be communicated through the App or via email
• Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms
• If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the App

• Modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature or the entire Service
• Change pricing or subscription plans
• Impose usage limits or restrictions

We will provide reasonable notice of material changes when feasible.

15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, natural disasters, war, terrorism, labor disputes, or internet service failures.

16.6 Export Compliance

You agree to comply with all applicable export and import laws and regulations. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country.

16.7 Language

These Terms are provided in English. Any translations are provided for convenience only. In case of conflict, the English version shall prevail.
